Kyndell Kim is the weekday afternoon meteorologist at FOX5.
From severe thunderstorms to dangerously high record-setting temperatures, Kyndell has been working to inform Southern Nevadans of impending weather since 2015.
Kyndell is a graduate of the Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program at Mississippi State University. In addition, Kyndell also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California, Irvine. Kyndell was also a cheerleader at UC Irvine.
Kyndell joins FOX5 after spending nearly a decade working as a meteorologist and anchor/reporter right here in Las Vegas! Kyndell began her career as a weather forecaster at KBAK-TV in Bakersfield, CA, where she was also the station’s midday anchor. Previously, Kyndell worked as a production assistant and intern at KABC-TV in Los Angeles and anchor/reporter at Time Warner Cable's Channel 3 News in Orange County, CA.
Kyndell is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Outside of work, Kyndell can be found dancing or singing with her two beautiful daughters, playing fetch with her yorkies and/or cooking at home alongside her husband (sometimes all three at the same time)!
Monday’s cloudy skies will assist in keep temperatures near normal, though noticeably warmer days are ahead. As the weak disturbance responsible for Monday’s clouds exits the region, skies will clear out -- pushing temperatures up 5-10 degrees above seasonal average.
Quiet weather returns to the region Friday, ahead of breezier conditions and another slight shower chance on Saturday.
First alert changes are in the forecast this week, as cooler air out of the north funnels into the viewing area. A breeze to start this week will signal the changes, as high temperatures are expected to stall in the upper 50s and lower 60s through the upcoming weekend.
A gradual increase in temperatures will push Thursday’s and Friday’s high temperatures into the mid-to-upper 60s, into the low 70s by this weekend. The continued increase in temperatures Saturday will be assisted by vertical mixing though, as wind gusts are expected to peak at 30-40 mph.

Skies stay clear under slightly below normal highs in the mid-60s Friday afternoon. Low temperatures will drop back into the 40s early Saturday morning, though temperatures are set to gradually rise this weekend. Highs in the 70s will return to the region by Sunday and Veterans Day on Monday.
The cold arrived Tuesday morning snapping temperatures down around 15°-20° from where they stood only 24 hours ago. Tuesday’s below normal high top out in the mid-to-upper 60s. The normal high for today is 75°.

A cold storm dropping in from the north will continue to bring strong wind and the coldest air so far this season to the region through Friday night. Much more calm and pleasant conditions are expected this weekend.

As the Tropicana Las Vegas meets it’s final fate around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, temperatures will comfortably sit near the mid-70s with a West wind below 10 mph.
Warm weekend temperatures roll over into the start of the work week with the upper 90s holding steady. We’re still seeing an Excessive Heat Warning for the Colorado River Valley and Lake Mead until Monday evening at 8 PM.

It feels like Fall out! Highs in the Las Vegas Valley are topping out in the low-to-mid 80s throughout most of Southern Nevada Tuesday. The cooldown continues with a forecast high of 86° in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The normal high is 94°.

A weak west-to-southwest flow will bring in variable levels of wildfire smoke to the region through this weekend. The good news? The smoke coming into the region Friday is more limited and higher up the in atmosphere, so most neighborhoods throughout Southern are holding onto good/moderate air quality ratings Friday.

Wildfires burning in Southern California have continuously sent variable levels of smoke into our region, negatively impacting Southern Nevada’s air quality.

Impactful levels of smoke from wildfires burning in Southern California. Large plumes of smoke could even be seen from satellites in space, as smoke continues to filter into our region.

Tuesday’s high not only marks the warmest day of the rest of this week, but the 100th day of the year with temperatures hitting at least 100°. This ties the record for the highest number of 100° days in a year on record in Las Vegas.

In addition to the heat, air quality impacts should be expected as plumes of wildfire smoke continue to filter into the region (particularly from the Line Fire burning in Southern California).
An Excessive Heat Warning went into effect for Southern Nevada on Wednesday, and will remain in place until 8 p.m. Friday. High temperatures are noticeably hot for this time of year, bringing about heat risk concerns as overnight lows in the upper 70s/low 80s won’t bring much relief.

If you’re a fan of highs in the 90s, you’ll want to take a moment to enjoy the weather on Monday. Highs will return to the triple-digit mark by Tuesday, after the coolest weather in more than two months rolled in over the weekend.

Showers and thunderstorms are now taking a trek east as drier air is also moving in over the region. After hitting peak gusts in the 30-40 mph range on Tuesday, breezy conditions will continue through the upcoming weekend.
