Travelers look for ways to cut holiday costs
AAA: 119.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more over this holiday season
(InvestigateTV) — With record numbers of Americans predicted to travel this holiday season, WalletHub found that 72% of people said that inflation will impact their trip.
John Kiernan, Managing Editor at WalletHub said this means that some people will choose not to travel at all while others will look for ways to save.
The study found four out of five travelers will try to cut costs by using credit card rewards points for their trip.
Kiernan said many credit cards offer amenities beyond just rewards points, such as travel insurance.
“It’s really helpful for winter travel,” he said. “A lot of people, kind of have been in the case where they’re at the airport, their flight gets canceled and they think they might be out of the money. If you use the right credit card, then that’s not necessarily the case. You can get reimbursed for those expenses.”
He also recommends starting to budget early for next year’s travel season.
“It’s definitely kind of something you can work on throughout the year to make your end of year spending a little more easy and to make the New Year’s less kind of debt laden,” Kiernan explained.
