Metro police identify officer involved in North Las Vegas shooting
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Las Vegas Metro police have identified the officer involved in a North Las Vegas shooting from Friday night.
Officer Marcos Gomez, 33, returned fire at 54-year-old Jaime Mendoza, who was firing at officers as he attempted to flee the area. LVMPD first attempted to make a traffic stop on Mendoza after identifying his vehicle in a previous violent felony crime.
Mendoza then sped off and briefly escaped police, before crashing his vehicle and fleeing the area on foot.
On Sunday, police located Mendoza once again and took him into custody.
No officers were injured.
Officer Gomez has been employed with LVMPD since 2021 with the Tourist Safety Division in the Downtown Area Command.
He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident.
