LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Las Vegas police released more details into a North Las Vegas shooting involving an officer.

On Friday, Nov. 29 officers responded to reports of kidnapping and sexual assault with a deadly weapon.

Police say they located 54-year-old Jaime Mendoza near the 600 block of Christy Lane.

Mendoza attempted to speed off but crashed his 2015 Toyota Rav4 into a tree and another car. Police report he got out of the car and ran off.

Officer Marcos Gomez, 33, began chasing after Mendoza.

LVMPD says while Mendoza was attempting to escape he shot one round at officers. He was armed with a revolver.

Officer Gomez returned four rounds, ultimately shooting Mendoza in the hip. No officers were injured.

A perimeter was set near the North Las Vegas Boulevard area to locate the suspect but officers were unsuccessful.

On Dec. 1, Mendoza was located on the 600 block of Linn Lane where he surrendered. He was provided medical attention for the gunshot to his hip.

Mendoza faces multiple felony charges including attempted murder of a first responder, resisting arrest with a firearm, aggravated stalking, auto theft, felony evading, kidnapping and sexual assault with a deadly weapon.

Officer Gomez has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident.

Mendoza is set to appear in court on Dec. 4.
