Railcar catches fire in downtown Las Vegas, vehicles on train scorched
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Las Vegas police said a railcar caught fire in the downtown area Friday evening.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to the train tracks between Las Vegas City Hall and the Smith Center. Crews forced entry into the railcar and found several vehicles on fire.
Firefighters kept the fire confined to only one railcar.
The thick, black smoke could be seen for miles at the height of the fire. Todd Ross, who lives nearby, told FOX5, “This could have been anything... Anything could have been on that train and it could have affected all of us who live here.”
Union Pacific said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
Officials said no injuries were reported. Roads were closed in the area for hours.
LVFR told FOX5 the vehicles were not electric.
