“Upon arrival, officers observed vehicles with broken windows, bricks all over, as well as a window to the residence that was broken out,” Captain Kirk McKenzie shared in a media briefing Tuesday.

Officers approached the residence, heard a loud noise, and entered the home. Inside, officers saw two individuals in a struggle over a knife. Police report they found two knives at the scene.

The officer ordered the two people struggling over the knife to drop the weapon. The officer then shot one of the people, Brandon Durham, 43, firing six rounds. Durham died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

LVMPD said only three seconds passed between the first and last rounds fired.

“They have a matter of seconds, if not split seconds to make very challenging decisions,” argued Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren.

Police identified the officer who shot Durham as 26-year-old officer Alexander Bookman, who has been with the department since 2021.

Family called the shooting of Durham a “complete disservice.” They viewed the body-worn camera for the first time Thursday before it was released to the public.

Family of a man killed by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are outraged after they say police shot and killed their loved one.

“When I viewed the video, he was at least eight feet away from my brother who was struggling with the intruder inside the home, screaming, ‘Help me! help me!’ The officer shoots my brother in the head,” Diane Wright, Brandon’s sister, said.

“My father always feared the police and even with that fear, he asked me to call the police. I dialed my phone and handed it to him and that was the last time I saw him alive,” shared 15-year-old Isabella Durham who was in the home during the shooting.

Alejandra Boudreaux, 31, the intruder struggling with Durham over the knife was not hurt and taken into custody. She is now facing charges for one count of home invasion, domestic violence, one count of child abuse and neglect, and the disregard for a person’s safety that resulted in death. Police said Boudreaux and Durham had a “prior domestic relationship.”

This is the 13th officer-involved shooting in LVMPD’s jurisdiction this year.

Boudreaux is set to appear in court on Nov. 18.
