Search for missing Las Vegas man continues with help from San Diego K9 team
The man‘s daughter tells FOX5 that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A days' long search for a missing man with Alzheimer’s continues in the Sunrise Manor area.
David Ramirez, 62, was last seen leaving his home near Desert Inn and Hollywood on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
“He’s a big friendly senior, he loves people... He is kind,” his daughter Julieta Jimenez told FOX5. “The outpouring of support from the community and Red Rock [Search and Rescue]... it has been incredible.”
The day he went missing, Ramirez was captured on a Ring camera, stepping outside his front door and standing still for a minute before slowly walking off into the street.
Jimenez shared that two years ago, her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
“It comes and goes, it is not something that is consistent... I am hoping this an episode and he will come to a lucid moment,” Jimenez said.
More than 100 volunteers have stepped forward: friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers are searching the area on foot, on dirt bikes, and by car.
“Red Rock Search and Rescue came out to my house they took a sample of his scent to use with the K9s... They started searching around my neighborhood... The dogs lead them to the wash behind my home... The dogs couldn’t continue the search because they didn’t have their boots because it was dark,” Jimenez recounted.
As the odds of finding him safe become more unlikely with each passing day, his family is not sleeping or working — just searching and refusing to give up hope.
“We are trying to remain hopeful. So I am asking everyone to please keep a lookout for him... I want him home,” Jimenez stated.
Search Dogs 24/7 from San Diego, California are driving into town Monday night to pick up the search.
In a release Tuesday, Metro police say Ramirez was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a black and green flannel, and dark-colored shorts. He also has tattoos on both calves and shoulders, as well as on his fingers.
The tattoos on his shoulders include a rose and a pyramid, police added.
Anyone with information on Ramirez can contact Metro police at (702) 828-3111, or his family at 702-969-5586.
The family also asks that readers share Ramirez’s information on social media to help spread awareness and reach as many people as possible.
