LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Air conditioning has been a hot topic within the Clark County School District again this year.

FOX5 has been investigating student and staff complaints about air conditioning problems at several CCSD schools.

On Tuesday, the CCSD Bond Oversight Committee discussed the issue again and indicated it may be more widespread.

“As of right now I’ve heard there’s about 91 schools that have issues with air conditioners going on right now,” said CCSD Bond Oversight Committee member Abraham Camejo.

“Even though summer’s ending I want to start seeing how many units will possibly need replacement. Because if the air conditioner’s not working that means the heater’s not going to be working in the next two weeks,” he added.

Air conditioning has been a hot topic within the Clark County School District again this year.

The committee has asked for a report on the number of schools impacted. It wanted that report this month, but CCSD officials at the meeting said it probably won’t be ready until next month.

Over the last month, FOX5 has been reporting on air conditioning issues at several CCSD schools, and we’ve pushed the district for answers.

We’ve heard complaints from students and teachers at Chapparral High School, Bob Miller Middle School and others.

However, the district has only confirmed issues at Chapparral and declined to share more.

The bond oversight committee is now planning to discuss the HVAC issue at their October meeting to determine how many need to be repaired or replaced, and how much it will cost.

But is the money there?

The district is already dealing with major budget issues. Just last week announcing the departure of their chief financial officer, who says he was fired.

Those budget issues are now affecting homework as well, forcing a school to cut back on costly ink and paper.

Barber Elementary sent a letter to parents, saying second graders will not receive homework packets for the rest of the year.

FOX5 has filed a public records request for a list of school with air conditioning problems, as well as information about temperature readings of more than 85 degrees in classrooms.

FOX5 is waiting for those records requests to be filled.
