LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - After seeing a story on FOX5, a company that provides pediatric care services is stepping in to help a Las Vegas Valley family caring for a child with special needs.

In April, we shared the story of Elena Carranco, 5, who was born with a rare condition called chromosome deletion. The syndrome affects her speech and physical development.

Carranco’s quality of life has improved over the last month thanks to a medical bed donation from 1Care Kids Pediatric program.

“We had seen the story on FOX5, and as a company, we are locally owned and operated, so we love supporting our community and basically helping families and children in need regardless of payer source,” COO Eddie Belluomini said.

The company is now providing free services to Carranco.

“Elena didn’t qualify, so he went ahead and said it is fine, I’ll just help you pro bono, and they have ever since then, they have been really helpful,” said Elena’s mom, Noemi Becerra. “That same week they delivered the bed, and ever since then we have a nurse, in-home nurse that comes and checks on Elena.”

Elena is still in need of a new wheelchair.

“We do need the wheelchair because it helps her body structure and it helps form her body how it should be, because sadly it is getting deformed because she doesn’t have that wheelchair,” she added.

She’s now getting help finding resources for her daughter.

“They just guide me through it and I have never had that, and with that now it is a big weight off my shoulders because I don’t feel alone in it, I feel like there is someone there to help me through it,” she said.

Becerra said this week she was informed by Nevada Medicaid that it could only cover some of the cost for a new wheelchair because it’s not medically necessary. The family is trying to fundraise the remaining cost.
