LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A sexual assault suspect who led Las Vegas police on a chase in North Las Vegas is being held on $1 million bail.

Police located Jamie Mendoza near Nellis and Bonanza responding to reports of kidnapping and sexual assault.

The 54-year-old tried to flee in an SUV before crashing. A foot pursuit would ensue.

Officer Marcos Gomez, 33, began chasing the suspect. Mendoza fired one round at officers while Officer Gomez fired four.

Mendoza would surrender and receive treatment for a gunshot wound in the hip.

Mendoza faces multiple felony charges including attempted murder of a first responder, resisting arrest with a firearm, aggravated stalking, auto theft, felony evading, kidnapping and sexual assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the Clark County Detention Center, Mendoza is being held on a $500K bail. This is also combined with North Las Vegas Justice Court’s bail of $500K where he faces attempted murder charges.

Mendoza is back in court on January 23 for his preliminary hearing.
