Suspect in deadly Las Vegas Strip stabbing returning to court after 2-year hospitalization
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The man accused of stabbing eight people on the Las Vegas Strip in 2022 will return to court next week, according to court records.
Yoni Barrios is accused of killing two people and injuring six others in a stabbing attack near the Wynn on October 6, 2022.
An arrest report detailed how he traveled to Las Vegas to live with a friend and find work, but was unsuccessful and claimed he was not “being treated like a human being.” At one point, Barrios approached four showgirl impersonators and asked them to pose for a picture with his knives, claiming he was a chef.
When one woman began to back away, he charged her and stabbed her in the back. He then stabbed three other women, including Maris DiGiovanni who would later die, then ran south. There, he fatally stabbed another man, Brent Hallet, and injured three others.
Barrios would later tell police that he felt the women were “laughing at him and making fun of his clothing” and after stabbing them, he looked for others to “let the anger out.”

Barrios was found not competent for trial in December 2022 and committed to a hospital. He has remained in treatment for nearly two years.
Court records reveal that a judge has ordered Barrios' transport for a competency hearing next week, to determine if he is ready for trial.
He is due back in court on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024.
