Las Vegas Aviators take home opener against Sugar Land Space Cowboys

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Las Vegas Aviators (Reyes de Plata) defeated the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, 9-5, in the opener of the six-game homestand before a crowd of 5,361 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Las Vegas, winners of two straight games, improved to 26-26 and Sugar Land dropped to 33-19. The Space Cowboys have the best record in the 10-team Pacific Coast League.
The Aviators broke the 2-2 tie with five runs in the four inning. Second baseman Hoy Park was 3-for-4, run scored and a season-best 5 RBI. Catcher Carlos Perez was 2-for-2, three walks, two doubles, three runs scored and shortstop Nick Allen was 2-for-3, two walks.
Las Vegas right-hander Luis Medina pitched 3.2 innings on a ML rehab assignment. He allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, walked 2 and struck out 6 on 72 pitches (44 strikes).
Space Cowboys right-hander AJ Blubaugh suffered the loss. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 6 hits, 6 runs, walked 2 and struck out 4 on 83 pitches (48 strikes).
Sugar Land left fielder Cooper Hummel was 2-for-3, walk, double, HR, 2 RBI, two runs scored and right fielder Quincy Hamilton was 2-for-4, RBI, runs scored.
Game two of the series is Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. on Bark on the Berm Night.
