Plane crashes in neighborhood near Falcon Field Airport in Mesa
No serious injuries have been reported
MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Two people were not hurt after their plane suffered a mechanical issue and crashed before getting to Falcon Field Airport in Mesa on Thursday afternoon.
The plane went down in a neighborhood about a quarter-mile away from the airport in the orange groves shortly before 3:30 p.m., and came to a stop behind a home.
According to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, the pilot took off from Falcon Field but experienced engine trouble shortly after. The pilot tried to return to the airport, but there wasn’t enough altitude to make it.
The pilot wanted to put the plane down on a dirt road in the nearby orange groves. The plane touched down, hit a tree stump and spun around, which caused heavy damage, fire crews said.
The pilot and the other person got out of the plane and weren’t injured.
The plane stopped just feet away from a home.
