LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Las Vegas Metro Police share new details in a south valley shooting that happened inside South Point hotel.

After several hours of Reyes not responding to officers commands they deemed the situation a barricaded suspect. SWAT and crisis negotiators were deployed for assistance.

Officers then used an explosive device to open the door to the hotel room.

“We have no choice to open the door and see what we’re dealing with,” said Sheriff Dori Koren.

Police said the Reyes began charging officers armed with a shotgun. As Reyes exited the room he tripped over a police robot dropping the weapon and then got back up and continued to charge officers.

Reyes is seen on footage captured by an armored robot holding the shotgun running down the hotel hallway. Officers also later found a handgun on Reyes.

45-year-old LVMPD Officer Zachary Adam fired his gun once hitting Reyes. He died on the scene.

Adam has been employed with LVMPD since 2006.

“This was a hotel and casino that was very busy because of a large event that was happening and our officers had to take the actions necessary to keep the community safe,” explained Sheriff Koren.

According to police, it was later discovered that there was no ammunition in the shotgun.

LVMPD reported this as the 16th officer-involved shooting and 9th fatal in 2024 so far.
