LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has issued a statement following a federal judge’s ruling, halting the merger of grocery stores Kroger and Albertsons.

AG Ford says he believes the block is a step in the right direction to protect consumers from rising grocery prices.

According to Ford, the judge’s decision comes after the merger was criticized for anti-competitive business practices, and violating the federal Clayton Act.

Previously, Kroger claimed that the merger was necessary to compete with supermarket giants like Walmart.
