Miller charged with open murder following Thursday arrest in Fernley
FERNLEY, Nev. (KOLO) - The 19-year-old who sparked a 30+ hour manhunt after allegedly stabbing his parents has now been officially charged.
Adam Elijah Miller has been charged with open murder, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, and destroying or concealing evidence. He was jailed without bond. Open murder means the homicide was a first or second degree murder or was manslaughter.
Miller’s father was killed in the stabbing, while his mother remains in the hospital and is expected to survive.
In a Thursday press conference, Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope said Miller was discovered in the rafters of a barn and was taken into custody at gunpoint. He was then taken to a local hospital where he was evaluated and later booked into the Lyon County Detention Center.
As the search for Miller was ongoing, police say they were able to track the ping on Miller’s cell phone, saying he was continuously turning the device on and off. 16 houses in Fernley were searched for Miller’s whereabouts, but he was not found inside any of them.
A lockdown at Fernley schools and a shelter-in-place order for neighborhoods surrounding Farm District Road were initiated Wednesday after police say Miller stabbed his parents.
Following his arrest, the lockdown in Fernley was lifted.
