PUCN approves NV Energy plans to add more solar power and battery storage
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved an NV Energy plan to add more than 1,000 megawatts of solar power and 1,000 megawatts of battery storage in Nevada.
The PUCN says that the energy company’s plan will meet the growing energy demands of Nevada.
“As our State continues to grow, so too must our infrastructure. We put forward a balanced plan and now we’re rolling up our sleeves to get to work to deliver for our current and future customers,” said NV Energy President and CEO Doug Cannon. “We are proud to support economic growth and job creation in Nevada with these investments, all while continuing to provide reliable energy services at a cost that is below the national average and is more than 50 percent cheaper than energy rates paid by residents of California.”
Around 400 megawatts of natural-gas peaking units will also be added as part of this plan, which NV Energy says will be used during times of peak summer loads.
