LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will be buying up more than $1 million in tickets to this year’s Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The $1.7 million in tickets are for LVCVA customers and destination partners, which the authority is attempting to add as clients.

That amounts to a total of about 135 tickets - which is more than $12,000 per ticket, and yet a quarter of the amount bought last year.

“These are international intermediaries who bring hundreds of thousands of room nights a year from Europe or Asia, or South America or Central America,” said Steve Hill, the CEO of the LVCVA.

The board voted to unanimously approve the purchase during Tuesday’s meeting.
